2018 SBF CSA Week #9

Happy Week #9 Subscribers!
It’s been a busy week here at the farm. We have been transplanting the fall cole crop seedlings that will get planted outside soon. These crops usually produce a much better yield in the fall, than they do in spring.  Thank goodness because this year’s spring yield was absolutely horrible.
We also have a couple items making their first appearance this season. We have the first picking of sweet corn. We had some doubts about this planting, because a hailstorm pretty much shredded the leaves right before the corn was producing ears. But it seems to have weathered the storm well.
We also have the first cantaloupe of the season. The weather has been perfect — dry and hot.  Dry weather produces some super sweet melons.
Speaking of weather, it just doesn’t get any better than yesterday (7/6), and today(7/7). It made for a very pleasant and enjoyable day for picking produce.
