2018 SBF CSA Week #14

Hi SBF Friends!  It’s that time of year, when the transplanter gets it’s second good workout of the season.  It gets a work out all season long, but the two major workouts are in the spring and then late summer — our two cole crop times.  I have included a picture of the transplanter that we use.  You’ll see the wheel in the middle with the metal spikes.  These spikes poke the hole in the soil.  The two yellow tanks hold water and slowly drain into the wheel, which fills the poked holes with water as you go.  The trays hold the plants and an individual sits in each seat.  Like the second picture.  🙂  That’s the most perfect watermelon ever!!!  And of course, as you can see, the hens are always close by.  The individuals remove the plants from the trays and place one plant in each hole.  This piece of equipment allows us to plant hundreds of plants in under an hour.  By far the easiest and quickest part of the whole life and fruit of a plant for us.
Quick side note — the rainfall earlier in the week was a little rough on the tomatillos so we’re going to have to wait a little longer on those.  We’ll take it though, that was much needed rain!!

If you liked the open-faced tomato sandwiches as much as us, you’ll need to try this recipe with your tomatoes and cherry peppers.
These dine o mite green beans are a serving for one at my house.  Oops!

Cheese and vegetables — it just doesn’t get any tastier.  This acorn squash and eggplant lasagna has both.  Yum!
