2017 SBF CSA Week #16

Greetings Shared Bounty Members,

You just have to love the weather here in Missouri. We went from beautiful, cool, fall-like weather, to summer heat again. While “hot and dry” is not the ideal growing conditions for our fall cole crops, it should help to ripen up some more tomatoes and plump up our last summer squash planting and green beans.

This is one of our busiest times of the season — continuing to nurture this season’s crops while planning for next season.  In planning for next season, we will follow our crop rotation guidelines to map out which crops will go where next season, which then drives us to decide which cover crops need to get planted in each plot this fall.  Some plots will also receive a layer of compost this fall, while others will get compost in the early spring. There are also two high tunnels to clean out, and eventually another one to build before next season.

Even though it makes for a busy fall, we always look forward to planning for next season. If anyone has any suggestions for new items or varieties to grow, please let us know. We will certainly consider growing any crop that will thrive in our region.

Have a safe week.
