2017 SBF CSA Week #6


Hello Subscribers! We are sure enjoying a couple perfect days. The heat we were experiencing earlier in the week puts a lot of stress on the crops, and makes it difficult to get the vegetables picked and cooled quickly to preserve the quality. The heat was not a problem today. I know that a lot of you have been waiting for the tomatoes, and I am happy to let you know that our first flush of slicing tomatoes have finally ripened. I hope you enjoy them as much as we do. We also have another first time offering from Shared Bounty Farm. Leeks. This was a trial year for this crop, and I believe we will be adding it to our list of crops that we grow every year. We are also including the first summer squash of the season, and the first new potatoes. I am pretty sure that there will be some very tasty dishes whipped up with this week’s bounty. We also have some recipes to go along with the delicious items in your cooler.

This recipe,  A Supper of Zucchini, Tomatoes, and Basil, uses a couple of the items in your cooler, and looks extremely tasty.

 

 

 

The Roasted Peppers with Leeks recipe is a real winner.

 

These Southern-Style Collard Greens are one of my favorites.

This LEEK and ROOT VEGETABLE GRATIN is perfect for this week’s veggies.
