2017 SBF CSA Week #3

Hello!  Whew, did it get hot this week.  Looks like summer temps are here to stay — thankfully the tomatoes like hot!  Ripe cherry and grape tomatoes should be just around the corner.  The increase in pea production surprised us this week so you will find some super sweet shell peas in your coolers.  I’m not going to lie, I think I shelled and ate just as many peas while I was picking as I put in the coolers.  Also, some of you will find one or multiple purple flowers in the bag of your onion chives — these are onion chive blossoms and are edible and very flavorful.  We hope you enjoy this week’s nutritious bounty!

Included this week:

* Rhubarb

* Shell Garden Peas

* Beets

* Scarlet Kale

* Cabbage

* Cucumbers

* Onion Chives

* Radishes

* Freckles Leaf Lettuce

SPOTLIGHTED RECIPES

If you don’t like raw radishes, please try roasted radishes.  When roasted, the flavor becomes mellow and soft, unlike that peppery bite when consumed raw.

Boost your vitamin K levels with this refreshing tangy rhubarb salsa recipe.

The shell peas will be delicious no matter how you choose to use them, but this recipe is a keeper.

Beet chips.  Yum!
